Cidipay — P2P Fiat Trading & Payment Infrastructure

Cidipay was built as a peer-to-peer financial platform enabling users to trade and transfer fiat currencies such as NGN, USD, GBP, EUR, and CAD. I led the technical development of the platform, covering the backend architecture, transaction workflows, security controls, integrations, and deployment infrastructure.

P2P Trading & Escrow Infrastructure

I designed and implemented the P2P trading architecture around controlled transaction stages, including trade initiation, funding windows, payment confirmation, receipt submission, disbursement, dispute handling, and trade closure. The platform uses escrow-based transaction flows to protect both parties while providing in-app communication and administrative oversight.

I also implemented automated trade-chat workflows and backend services that coordinate transaction states, payment evidence, user confirmations, and administrative approvals.

Security, Reliability & Platform Engineering

I strengthened Cidipay's infrastructure around authentication, authorization, transaction controls, sensitive-data protection, and monitoring. The platform was structured to reduce unauthorized access and limit the impact of compromised accounts or individual services.

I also managed the deployment architecture, database infrastructure, API integrations, and production operations, ensuring the platform could support continuous development while maintaining transaction integrity and operational reliability.

Product & Business Impact

Cidipay evolved from a basic payment concept into a multi-currency financial platform supporting P2P fiat trading, currency conversion, bill payments, global spending, referrals, and a points-based participation system.

The modular architecture made it possible to introduce new currencies, trading workflows, payment integrations, and financial features without rebuilding the core transaction infrastructure.

### The Challenge Cidipay needed to move beyond a basic payment experience and establish a reliable infrastructure for peer-to-peer fiat trading across multiple currencies. The platform had to coordinate buyers and sellers, escrow transactions, payment confirmation, receipt verification, disputes, and settlement while maintaining transaction integrity. The challenge was compounded by the need to support multiple currencies, flexible exchange rates, real-time communication, automated trade workflows, and administrative controls within a single platform. Security and access control were also critical, as weaknesses in authentication, authorization, or transaction handling could directly expose user funds. The existing architecture also needed to support rapid product development without creating tightly coupled services that would become difficult to maintain as new payment methods, currencies, and financial products were introduced.

### What We Delivered We delivered a secure, modular P2P financial platform supporting multi-currency fiat trading, escrow-protected transactions, flexible exchange rates, and real-time trade communication. The platform manages the complete transaction lifecycle—from trade creation and funding through payment confirmation, receipt verification, disbursement, dispute resolution, and closure. We built backend APIs and automated workflows to coordinate users, transactions, chat, payment evidence, and administrative approvals. An operations layer provides visibility into trades, settlements, disputes, user activity, and transaction reconciliation, while role-based access controls protect sensitive financial operations. The platform was also designed as a scalable foundation for additional financial services, including currency conversion, bill payments, global spending, referrals, and a points-based participation system, allowing new capabilities to be introduced without disrupting the core transaction infrastructure.

Time to onboard a new partner dropped from 11 weeks to under 2 weeks. Launch-quarter partner revenue contributed 38% of total group revenue, with 68% lower per-transaction support cost. The platform now processes $18M+ monthly across 12 active partner brands.

We were treating every partner like a bespoke build. PeerHub gave us a single configurable platform with branded front-ends, programmatic APIs, and an operating model we can actually scale. The numbers speak for themselves.
